African Select Hunting Safaris focuses on quality not quantity. We do not mix different hunting groups. We also do not over hunt our concessions. We sell a personal hunt with attention to you as our main focus. We hunt selectively with the focus on older trophy animals past breeding age.
PLAINS GAME
South Africa is home to more than 40 antelope species. The concessions we hunt are home to large numbers of the species. We hunt out of 2 different lodges. Depending on the target species we will tailor-make every hunt to each specific client’s needs to minimize traveling and maximize hunting time at the same time staying in the perfect area with the best trophy quality.
DANGEROUS GAME
In the Eastern Cape we mainly hunt buffalo, other dangerous game we travel more north and northwest to hunt. We offer the full dangerous 7, in exceptionally good hunting areas with highly skilled and knowledgeable guides. Bare in mind the minimum caliber requirement for dangerous game in South Africa is a .375 cal.
HUNTING
AREAS
I was brought up in Kirkwood, a small town in the Eastern Cape, approximately a 45 minute drive from the Port Elizabeth airport. I grew up hunting the thick valley bushveld on a weekly basis. I have an exceptional hunting network built up in the area with around 300,000 acres of land that is privately owned and not over hunted.
In the Kirkwood area we have a phenomenal amount of grysbuck, duiker, bushbuck, nyala, kudu, impala, blesbuck, zebra, waterbuck, blue wildebeest, warthog, bushpig. There are other species in the area but these are the species in large numbers you’ll see often and in very good trophy quality.
Northwest of Kirkwood, we enter the more Karoo semi-dessert type of terrain.
Here we have our family ranch and also well established relationships with neighbors and friends in a 1 hour radius of our private property. This area is a much drier climate and colder slightly higher elevation, resulting in less ticks and different vegetation.
Here we find different species and also species that overlap to the Kirkwood area.
Steenbuck, duiker, common, black, copper and white springbuck, blesbuck, impala, blue and golden wildebeest, gemsbuck, eland, waterbuck, lechwe, warthog and bushpig.
2 Hours east, we hunt in the Winterberg mountain range at 4,000 feet elevation we have the mountain lodge.
The elevation results in a vegetation and temperature change. This is more open grass veld resulting in having a lot of predominantly grazers on top of these mountains. This area is renowned for vaal rhebuck, mountain reedbuck, zebra, eland, black wildebeest, red hartebeest, springbuck, blesbuck and warthog.
Using the three lodges we have at our exposal ASHS tailor make every hunt to every clients need. ASHS normally receives a wish list from each hunter. ASHS then plans which lodges will be used during this specific hunt, taking into consideration, where the best quality trophies would be, how much we hunted a specific area, how many of the targeted species is in a close vicinity around the lodge to minimize traveling time etc.
